Frequently Asked Questions

The initial consultation is more conversational and exploratory than therapeutic.  It is an opportunity for both you and the therapist to determine if it is a good fit.  The therapist will introduce themselves, explain their approach, and outline policies and logistics.  You will be invited to share why you are currently seeking therapy, any current challenges, and what you are hoping to achieve.

What happens during the initial consultation?

Finding the right therapist is crucial for a successful therapy experience.  You should feel safe, comfortable, and understood.  You don't have to feel an instant deep connection, but there should be a sense of ease.  Additionally, there are practical and logistical considerations, such as fees, insurance options, and availability.

How do I know if the therapist is a good fit for me?

What can I expect from therapy?

You can expect a safe and confidential space in which your therapist helps you express thoughts and feelings, listening without judgement to help you process your emotions.  Therapy can help you understand patterns in your thoughts, behaviors, and relationships and you may uncover the root causes of certain struggles.  Depending on your goals and the approach of the therapist, you may learn tools for managing stress, anxiety, depression and other issues.

How often will I meet with my therapist?

Therapy is a process that takes time, effort, and openness.  The frequency of sessions will be determined by your needs, goals, and progress.  You will work in collaboration with your client to determine the scheduling option best suited for you.

How long are appointments?

Individual therapy appointments typically range from 45-55 minutes.
